Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, knighted thespians and masters of the internet, have debuted their latest Twitter selfie, this time poking fun at Super Bowl 2014.

The pair wear the jerseys of finalists the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos in the image, posted by Stewart, holding a soccer ball and laying claim to the primary definition of 'football'.

The X-Men actors' friendship has blossomed while appearing on Broadway together over the past year, bringing about a host of weird and wonderful pictures that include them posing with Elmo, eating corn on the cob in bowler hats and Stewart in a bath tub dressed as a lobster.

Sir Patrick is a keen football fan and life-long support of Huddersfield Town F.C., serving as president of the club's local talent program.

He recently married girlfriend Sunny Ozell, in a ceremony that was officiated by McKellen.

The pair's picture comes as talk on Twitter turns to this Sunday's Super Bowl, which is the final of the NFL's regular season and will see a halftime show performance from Bruno Mars.

Anyone planning on hosting the game at their home should open their mind to the possibility of building a snackadium, there's more info on that here.
