At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Forbes expects that number to creep even higher as her latest Hunger Games film, Mockinjay, has not yet ended its run in cinemas.
Lawrence, who has recently been the subject of information leaked by the Sony hack, has jumped nine places on Forbes’ list since 2013 when she was tenth.
Last year’s top spot was held by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who brought in $1.3bn.
Leaked data following a cyber-attack on Sony Entertainment reportedly revealed that Lawrence was paid less than her male co-stars on American Hustle - part of a continuing gender pay gap problem in Hollywood.
Chris Pratt is number two having made $1.2bn at the box office following surprise hit Guardians of Galaxy.
Scarlett Johansson is third, with Mark Wahlberg fourth and Chris Evans fifth.
