From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Miranda Kerr has described how she fell into a "bad depression” after her marriage to Orlando Bloom ended.

The model and actor began dating in 2007 and married a month after announcing their engagement in 2010.

Kerr says she is naturally a very positive, happy person and never fully understood what depression meant until she suffered it herself after she and Bloom split in 2013.

“When Orlando and I separated, I actually fell into a really bad depression,” she told Elle Canada. “I never understood the depth of that feeling or the reality of that because I was naturally a very happy person.”

Kerr said her depression began to improve after learning “that every thought you have affects our reality and only you have control of your mind”, saying daily meditation, yoga and healthy eating have all helped to keep her mindful.

The couple has presented a united front since their split and share custody of their five-year-old son Flynn. Earlier this year, Kerr said she moved from New York to California as Bloom had a house in Malibu and they “wanted to be close as a family".

Romantically, both Bloom and Kerr have both moved on. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor is in a relationship with Katy Perry and Kerr is engaged to Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel.
