At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Mick Jagger has become a father for the eighth time at the age of 73.

The Rolling Stones frontman and the ballerina Melanie Hamrick, 29, welcomed a son in New York on Thursday.

“Melanie Hamrick and Mick Jagger’s son was born today in New York and they are both delighted,” is publicist said in a statement. “Mick was at the hospital for the arrival. Mother and baby are doing well and we request that the media respect the privacy at this time.”

The son is Sir Mick’s eighth child but his first with Ms Hamrick. Sir Mick is already father to Karis, 46, from his relationship with Marsha Hunt and Jade, 45, with ex-wife Bianca Jagger. He also had four children with his former partner the model Jerry Hall: Lizzie, 32, James, 31, Georgia-May, 24, and Gabriel, 18. He has one further son Lucas,17, from his relationship with Luciana Gimenez.

The rocker also has five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Sir Mick is not the only recent father out of The Stones, his bandmate Ronnie Wood, 68, welcomed twin girls in May with his 37-year-old partner Sally.
