The former TOWIE member, who left school ten years ago, received his results yesterday along with thousands of teenagers across the country – and was delighted to find he had scored a D.
Opening his grade paper live on air, he said: “Oh my God! I got a D!”
“What a proud moment for me – I’m so proud.”
Essex, 26, sat the exam as part of his new show, Re-Educating Joey Essex: GCSE Special, during which he attempted to write an essay on how the Government can tackle youth crime.
Before opening the results on Thursday night, he told the camera: “I still don't really know what GCSE stands for.”
Essex rose to fame in 2011 after appearing on TOWIE followed by a number of shows including I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.
Despite reportedly leaving school with just a U in Drama, a C in Art and a D in Wood Tech, he is said to be worth £4.5m – and he’s not alone in finding fame and fortune with minimal grades.
