The couple confirmed on Tuesday the split via the following statement:
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time."
It added: "This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”
According to TMZ, the couple will not fire for divorce immediately. The couple started dating in 2004 after working together on the set of "Pearl Harbor" in 2001 and "Daredevil" in 2005.
Ms Garner and Mr Affleck have three young children together: Samuel, Seraphina and Violet.
