Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Steve-O, real name Stephen Glover, filmed himself on top of the crane and posted a series of videos on Facebook, including one showing a number of fire engines gathered underneath him.
In a post on his Facebook page before scaling the crane, he wrote: “We're going to do a big dangerous stunt in Los Angeles tomorrow that will probably get me in a lot of trouble, and you can watch it happen via a live stream, right here on Facebook, starting at exactly 7pm PST."

A spokesman for the LAPD told the Associated Press several ambulances and fire trucks were sent to the scene because they were unsure whether he needed rescuing. He said the fire trucks were there in a bid to cushion him incase he fell.
The 41-year-old, who also reportedly inflated a large balloon with "SeaWorld Sucks” written across it, was arrested as soon as he returned to the ground.
