From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Gwyneth Paltrow says she and Chris Martin still brunch together at the weekends with their children on days where they would rather be anywhere than in each other's company.

More than a year after their decision to “consciously uncouple”, Paltrow explained she and Martin still meet regularly with their children Apple, 11, and Moses, 9.

The Iron Man actress and GOOP founder said this arrangement was enforced even when relations are tense to ease their children through their divorce.

“I think, unfortunately, though we couldn’t stay in a romantic relationship, our values are very much around the importance of family and the importance of those relationships and I’m lucky that we’re aligned in that way,” she told the #BlogHer15 conference in New York.

“What that really means is, ‘Even though today you hate me and you never want to see me again, like, we’re going to brunch, because it’s Sunday and that’s what we’ll do. The children are our commitment.”

After this admission, Paltrow was quick to stress: "I really like him, he's great and a great dad."

The couple have attempted to make almost every aspect of their divorce appear cordial, whether it be by giving each other break-up gifts or going on family holidays.

Both have also given long-winded and obscure descriptions of their journey towards uncoupling, with Martin preferring to call their split “more a realisation about trying to grow up” than a marriage breakdown in interviews.
