No, it doesn’t appear that anyone has mentioned to Donald Trump that using his surname to market a fragrance this side of the Atlantic is a bad idea.
But the tycoon hasn’t let that stop him from inviting fans of his insurmountable wealth from smelling just like he does.
Enter ‘Empire by Trump’, Donald’s second men’s fragrance collection.
Hot on the citrus base notes of his sold-out first collection, ‘Donald Trump Cologne’, Trump describes Empire thusly: “When a man looks and feels his best he is automatically in a more powerful position. Empire is fragrance that gives confidence and commands attention.”
“When I consider good fragrances I think about how I feel when I'm wearing them,” he further tells E! News. “And to create that feeling there are various scents combined and layered - in many ways, it's a recipe.”
It’s fairly obvious why Trump’s decided to name the scent ‘Empire’. He has one, and he’s not afraid to use it to make it even bigger. But there’s an inner achievement to be gained for every man who wears the Trump scent with pride.
“Because every man has his own empire to build,” he adds, describing his target consumer as “the confident and determined man, the one who keeps going even when it gets tough”.
“That's how empires are built - with passion and perseverance. Empire evokes this masculine drive.”
The launch comes a week after the Celebrity Apprentice boss formally signalled his interest in running for president in 2016, declaring that he was “the only one who can make America great again”.
“I have a great love for our country, but it is a country that is in serious trouble,” Trump said in his statement that also called for rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure, improving border security, strengthening the military and improving the economy. Nothing, however, on improving bodily odour. “Americans deserve better than what they get from their politicians who are all talk and no action.”
