From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The video above shows the making of the latex mask which is garnished with a straw-like tuft replicating Mr Trump’s hair.
The initial production volume was only 250 units, however, the idea proved so popular that it is now due to be distributed across the country and in over 100 stores worldwide.
Mr Trump has become a figure of controvery in Mexico after making inflammatory remarks declaring that Latin American immigrants were “rapists” responsible for “bringing drugs and crime” into the United States.
Maria del Carmen Navarro, a Group Rev design engineer, told AFP that “there's a little bit of criticism, but we are Mexicans and we find laughter in tragedy”.
Mr Trump’s mask can already be bought online for $29.90. Its product description plays on Mr Trump's statement: 'Illegals be afraid!'
Group Rev has previously made masks of ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, the drug baron who managed to escape from prison for the second time last July.
