Donald Trump declares 'I love the poorly educated' as he storms to victory in Nevada caucus

The Republican nominee made a series of worrying claims after third victory in primaries

Donald Trump has ensured his name never ventures far from the headlines by consistently making comments few would expect to hear from a Presidential hopeful.

His triumph in Nevada overnight was no exception. The outspoken billionaire ramped up the increasingly divisive rhetoric continues to litter his speeches since victories in both the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries.

Comments about his opponents have ranged in nature from vulgar to offensive and bizarre while his policy pledges include an aggressive stance on immigration and vows to keep Muslims out of the US.

But some of his claims from the Nevada caucus were particularly worrying.

Violence

Trump has alluded to violence a number of times in previous speeches. “Even the really dishonest press says Trump's people are the most incredible. I mean I had already sixty-eight per cent would not leave under any circumstances,” he said in Las Vegas on Tuesday. “I think that means murder. I think it means anything.”

Trump made similar claims in January when boasting about how loyal his fanbase is by suggesting he could shoot someone dead and not lose their vote. “They say I have the most loyal people. Where I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters, ok? It’s like incredible”.

This comes after he told a Nevada pre-caucus rally that he would like to punch a ”disruptive“ protester in the face.

Voter base

“I love the poorly educated”, announced Trump in a jubilant speech as he swept to victory in the Nevada caucus.

“We won with young. We won with old. We won with highly educated. We won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated.”

Guns

He also praised the National Rifle Association and Second Amendment, describing his sons as “serious NRA”. His praise of the Second Amendment comes just days after an Uber driver went on a deadly shooting spree in Michigan, killing killed six people.

“I want to begin by thanking my boys, Eric has been all over the place making speeches. He’s getting better than me so I’m a little jealous. And Don went to […], you were all over, right?

He loves the rifle stuff. This is serious rifle. This is serious NRA, both of them, both of them. We love the Second Amendment folks, nobody loves it more than us, so just remember that.”

Guantanamo

Trump is promising to keep the controversial detention camp open after President Obama's repeated pledges to close it, something he reiterated in his victory speech.

“We’re going to keep as you know Gitmo, we’re keeping that open, and we’re going to load it up with bad dudes. We’re going to load it up w a lot of bad dudes out there.

Walls

Finally, he repeated his most familiar campaign promise: to build that big “beautiful“ wall, and make Mexico pay for it.

“We’re going to have our borders nice and strong. We’re going to build the wall, you know that. We’re going to build the wall. And I have a lot of respect from Mexico and you just heard we won Hispanics. But let me tell you Mexico is going to pay for the wall, right? It’s going to happen.”
