9 June: His Excellency Mr Kent Durr was received in audience by The Queen upon his appointment as High Commissioner for the Republic of South Africa on the occasion of South Africa rejoining the Commonwealth.

Mrs Durr was also received by Her Majesty.

The Lord Carrington KG was received by The Queen and delivered up his Gold Badge and Chain upon the relinquishment of his appointment as Chancellor of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George.

Sir Antony Acland was received by The Queen when Her Majesty handed to him the Gold Badge and Chain upon his appointment as Chancellor of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George.

Mr Paul Reddicliffe was received in audience by The Queen and kissed hands upon his appointment as Her Majesty's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cambodia.

Mrs Reddicliffe was also received by Her Majesty.

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany and Baroness von Weizsacker were received by The Queen.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Chancellor, today visited the University of Cambridge and conferred Honorary Degrees at the Senate House and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Cambridgeshire (Mr James Crowden).

His Royal Highness, Patron, Charities Aid Foundation, this evening gave the Eleventh Arnold Goodman Charity Lecture at Merchant Taylors' Hall, Threadneedle Street, London EC2, and afterwards attended a Dinner at the Reform Club, 104 Pall Mall, London SW1.

9 June: The Princess Royal today visited Lincoln and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Lincolnshire (Captain Sir Henry Nevile).

Her Royal Highnessthis afternoon opened the new residential training college for the Inland Revenue, Lawress Hall, Riseholme Park.

Her Royal Highness afterwards visited Lincoln Christ's Hospital, Wragby Road.

The Princess Royal, Patron, Quarry Bank Mill Trust, this evening attended a Fashion Show at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal, Wilmslow, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Cheshire (Mr William Bromley-Davenport).

The Duke of York, Admiral of the Sea Cadet Corps, attends a dinner in the Painted Hall, Royal Naval College, Greenwich. The Princess Royal opens the new Maternity Unit, Warrington Hospital NHS Trust, Warrington, Cheshire; and as President of Patrons, Crime Concern, visits the Halton Crime Reduction Programme, Castlefields Community Centre, Runcorn, Cheshire. Gun salutes

A 41-gun royal salute in honour of the Duke of Edinburgh's birthday will be fired by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery, Hyde Park, 12pm; a 62-gun royal salute will be fired by the Honourable Artillery Company, Tower of London, 1pm.

The Queen's Gallery

The Queen's Gallery opens between 10am and 5pm, and last admission is at 4.30pm.

Changing of the Guard

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am; 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards mounts the Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Grenadier Guards.
