BALMORAL CASTLE

3 October: The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were represented by Vice-Admiral Sir James Weatherall (Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps) at the Baltic Ferry Memorial Service which was held in St Martin-in-the- Fields this evening.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE

1 October: The Duke of York, Colonel- in-Chief, the Royal Irish Regiment, today accepted the Freedom of the Borough of Ballymena on behalf of the Royal Irish Regiment in Ballymena, Northern Ireland.

3 October: The Duke of York this morning visited the Moulescoomb County Junior School and the Moulescoomb Infant and Nursery School, Brighton, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for East Sussex (Admiral Sir Lindsay Bryson).

Captain David Thompson was in attendance.

His Royal Highness, Colonel-in- Chief, The Royal Irish Regiment, this afternoon received Colonel Frederick Allen upon relinquishing his appointment as Regimental Colonel and Colonel John Sankey upon assuming the appointment.

The Duke of York afterwards received Major Joyce Gillison upon relinquishing her appointment as Temporary Equerry to His Royal Highness and Major Elizabeth Towell upon assuming the appointment.

The Duke of York, Patron, Falklands Conservation, this evening attended a Reception to launch Penguin Appeal at the London Ecology Centre, Endell Street, London WC2.

3 October: The Princess Royal, President of the Patrons, Crime Concern, this morning attended the launch of the Newbury Motor Project at Donnington Valley Hotel, Newbury, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord- Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire (Mr John Henderson).

Her Royal Highness this afternoon opened the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene's refurbished auditorium and attended the Manson Oration at Manson House, 26 Portland Place, London W1.

The Countess of Lichfield was in attendance.

KENSINGTON PALACE

3 October: The Duchess of Gloucester, Honorary Freeman, was granted the Honorary Livery of the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers at Innholders' Hall, College Street, London EC4.

The Duchess of Gloucester was present this evening at a Concert and Dinner in aid of Royal United Kingdom Beneficient Association (RUKBA) at Kensington Palace State Apartments, London W8.

Mrs Euan McCorquodale was in attendance.

ROYAL ENGAGEMENTS

The Princess of Wales, Colonel-in-Chief, The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (Queen's and Royal Hampshires) and Patron, Exercise Intrepid Samburu, receives Major Ken Hames and members of the expedition team at Kensington Palace. The Princess Royal, President, Save the Children Fund, attends the Annual Public Meeting, Barbican, London EC2; and as President, Save the Children Fund, attends the gala celebration concert, Barbican. The Duchess of Gloucester visits Stimpson Avenue Lower School, Northampton, to mark the school's centenary and later opens the new offices of Grant Thornton (Chartered Accountants), Northampton.

The Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace opens between 10am and 5pm, and last admission is at 4.30pm.

Changing of the Guard

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am.
