From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ciara was just minding her own business, trying to make her way into the Valentino catwalk show like any other beautiful young thing currently in Paris, when she was ambushed by celebrity prankster Vitalii Sediuk.

The infamous red carpet crasher lunged through the crowds to give the singer an enthusiastic embrace which is weird enough, but the incident was made all the more uncomfortable by the fact he unpeeled his trench coat to reveal a sequinned top teamed only with a black man thong.

He then proceeded to pose for pictures with Ciara, armed draped round her. She looks to have handled the situation better than most, smiling back at Sediuk and managing not to violently push him away.

This is the second time Sediuk has struck during Paris Fashion Week, last Thursday targeting Kim Kardashian as she arrived at the Balmain show. He unexpectedly dove at her legs, pulling her to the ground.

The Ukrainian television presenter is known for having assaulted various celebrities on the red carpet, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Bradley Cooper.

"I hope Kim is OK and won't be mad at me as I didn't mean any harm. Kanye is one lucky man as Kim is a Goddess!" Sediuk told the Daily Mail.

He said that he had lunged at Kardashian in "protest" to the US having prohibited him from entering the country.

At yesterday’s incident with Ciara, the journalist had written on his leg, "Banned from the USA but I rock Chanel."

The most high-profile of his 'attacks' took place in May at the Los Angeles premiere of Maleficent when he punched Brad Pitt in the face. The actor was not seriously injured, but Sediuk was still reprimanded.

He pleaded 'no contest' to battery and unlawful activity at a sporting or entertainment event, and was sentenced to three years’ probation, a year of psychological counselling and 20 days of community service.

Furthermore, Pitt also obtained a restraining order against Sediuk to prevent any such incidents occurring to him or his partner Angelina Jolie in the future.
