The killer of Christina Grimmie was reportedly infatuated with the singer and made claims to co-workers about playing online games with her in the months before her death.

The former Voice contestant, 22, was shot and fatally wounded by Kevin Loibl, 27, while signing autographs for fans after a concert in Florida. He was tackled by her brother Marcus before turning the gun on himself.

Grimmie’s death hit the music industry deeply. Her former mentor Adam Levine has confirmed he will pay for her funeral and Selena Gomez’s step-father Brain Teefey, who managed Grimmie, has raised over $145,000 for her family.

Orlando police said Loibl travelled 100 miles across the state from his home in St Petersburg to the concert to commit the attack. They have found no connection between Grimmie or Liobl prior to her death and are continuing to investigate her death.

Loibl’s co-workers at the Best Buy store he worked at said he claimed to have played online games with her, according to TMZ. The site said he was also determined to change his appearance for, undergoing hair transplants and laser eye surgery.

The Orlando Police Department declined to comment on the report when contacted by the Independent.
