The tabloids have been clamouring over each other to jam Chris Martin and Alexa Chung’s names in the same headline since the Coldplay frontman announced his ‘conscious uncoupling’ from Gwyneth Paltrow back in March.

MailOnline ran a particularly hilarious ‘friendship’ exposé on the pair first bonding over a late-night milkshake at Glastonbury in 2013.

“They turned up together at around 3 or 4am and came over to where I was working at Shaken Udder and said to me and my friend 'what do you recommend?',” Jessica Goldsack, who served the rumoured couple that evening, reportedly told them.

“They looked like they were just chilling and having a good time. I did find it a little odd that they were together – but we had a little chat and they wandered off after they asked us if we knew of any good places to go and have a few drinks.”

In ‘tabloid world’, this was a momentous occasion which would surely lead to their immediate nuptials, were Martin not already married to Paltrow at the time.

Since Paltrow and Martin's break-up was confirmed, several stories have emerged speculating over the musician and the British model and that suggestive milkshake imbibing.

The latest of these said they had done away with dairy-based beverages altogether and headed out to a bar in New York.

Martin and Chung were apparently seen by a Heat magazine spy “tucked away together in a dark corner” of New York bar Elsa last week.

According to the insider, they “seemed to know each other really well. They were both in a great mood.”

Which again, equated to a full-blown, year-long affair.

However, a spokesperson for Martin has since denied the claims.

“They are definitely not dating,” they told The Metro.

And so ends that saga, lest they be seen a third time drinking something untoward.
