From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

But the usually collected actress lost her temper during an interview for Australian TV after she appeared to take mild offence to The Project’s Jonathan Hyla lack of sensible questions.
The conversation got off to a particularly awkward start when Hyla suggested the Melbourne-born actress should have a beer with him during the interview.
“I do not drink beers,” she said, coolly.
“What should I have brought that would have helped break the ice here?” Hyla asked.
“Potato vodka,” she replied, adding: “Getting back to the movie at hand – one of us has to do our job.”
“That’s your question? That’s your f**king question?”
“Nice to meet you,” she ends it, before giving Hyla a reluctant high five.
Last year, a video of Blanchett calling out red carpet sexism went viral following her appearance at the SAG Awards.
The Blue Jasmine star found herself the victim of one particularly objectifying sweeping camera shot, that aimed to capture her outfit from the hem of her Givenchy gown to the tip of her side-swept hairstyle.
Crouching down to the E! cameraman's level, she pointed at him and said: “Do you do that to the guys?”
