From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Britney Spears delivered a defiant message to men during a recent performance at her Las Vegas residency.

The pop star began her show by complimenting the women gathered in the audience, commenting: “Look how beautiful the girls are, oh my God." Despite the men gathered among her legion of fans, she added: “Men, frankly, can suck my f**king toe."

It isn't the first time Spears has told men to "suck her toe" after delivering the line in June, according to the New York Daily News.

She has become a feminist force to be reckoned with since beginning her Vegas run, reclaiming the word “bitch” earlier this year by creating her own definition and sharing it on Instagram.

“Being a bitch means… I stand up for myself and my beliefs,” she wrote in a post in March. “I stand up for those I love, I speak my mind, think my own thoughts or do things my way.

“I won't allow anyone to step on me. I refuse to tolerate injustice. “And if that makes me a Bitch, so be it. I embrace the title and I'm proud to be a Bitch!”

Spears’ residency at the Axis Theatre at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino has proved incredibly popular, with fans lining up to see her a year after she began her stint there. In January, the “Pretty Girls” singer signed on for another 50 shows - reportedly for $475,000 (£313,000) per performance.

She was forced to cancel two shows in May after taking a tumble during a performance and spraining her ankle.
