From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Sherlock actor tied the knot at a small parish church with close friends, family and co-stars from the BBC show in attendance, including Martin Freeman who plays Dr John Watson, and Andrew Scott, who plays Sherlock Holmes's arch-nemesis Moriarty.
In November, the 38-year-old actor announced his engagement to Hunter by posting an announcement in the classified section of The Times.
The announcement read: “The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London.”
Hunter is an actor and director who received the Samuel Beckett Award for writing and directing the avant-garde play The Terrific Electric in 2007.
Cumberbatch was recently nominated for an Academy Award for his role as the Second World War codebreaker Alan Turing in The Imitation Game.
The pair first met when they both appeared in the 2009 film Burlesque Fairytales.
