Divorcing at the best of times is a difficult task for anyone, especially with children involved. That difficulty rises exponentially when those divorcing are two people living under the glare of the public eye.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced their decision to separate after ten years in a marriage followed intensely by tabloids and gossip columns. Both have been at pains to stress their relationship is an amicable one after such a high-profile split and the pair are now vowing to make co-parenting work, something Affleck reiterated during an appearance on The Ellen Show when talking about how they manage their divorce.

“We’re goods friends and we’re doing our best, and the kids are fabulous and we’re working on our best for them,” he told Ellen Degeneres.

Affleck was interviewed by The New York Times just a day after Garner's interview with Vanity Fair came out, but appeared unfazed by the furore it caused.

“Jen’s great,” he said in the interview published this week. “She’s a great person. We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.”

He also appeared unbothered by her decision to speak so candidly about the aftermath of their split, insisting: “It’s fine. She’s allowed to talk about it.”

In a separate interview with the Today show, Garner echoed his promise to keep a united front as parents. ”People have been so kind to my whole family, and we really do appreciate it. But, you know what, we're doing really well. Thank you. The kids are great. They'll be getting up and going to school soon, and Ben is there and he'll be taking them. We will make it work.”

She admitted that going through a divorce in public had made the whole process more testing.

“It's not easy to go through it, period. I have found going through it in the public eye, it's just another facet of it. For anyone, when your life shifts in any way, it's tricky enough.”

The pair continue to spend holidays together and have been pictured on a number of family outings with their children since announcing their intention to divorce. Their amicable stance mirrors that taken by Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy at Christmas, who joked about spending the day as a modern family with Instagram pictures together entitled “exMas”.
