She will appear at Macclesfield Court on April 24.
“Police have charged an 80-year-old woman with drink driving following an incident in Knutsford on 10 March 2014,” a police spokesperson told The Mirror.
Knox, who plays Rita Tanner in the British soap, had been out for the afternoon with her daughter, Maxine Ashcroft, 54, when the incident took place.
On the way home from their day together, Ashcroft was breathalysed by the police. Knox turned up at Cheshire’s Knutsford police station to demand her daughter’s release, but was found to be under influence herself and promptly arrested.
Ashcroft pleaded guilty to drink driving this week and was consequently banned from driving for two years. The legal alcohol limit for drivers in the UK is 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
”This is a personal and private matter,” said a Coronation Street spokesperson.
Knox first appeared in the soap in 1964.
