Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. She may be known for her brilliant vocal range and acting abilities, but now Ariana Grande has displayed a previously unknown talent: an incredibly accurate impression of Jennifer Lawrence.
Grande showcased her skills when presenting US sketch show Saturday Night Live, a performance which was roundly met with praise.
Complete with a blonde, cropped wig, the 22-year-old poked fun at Lawrence’s seemingly relatable personality with lines like: “I’m just like a snack-a-holic I mean I love Pringles if no one’s looking I’ll eat like a whole can. Like every day is my cheat day you know what I mean?” all while managing to get the actresses’ distinctive voice spot-on.
Tilda Swinton, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba and Quentin Tarantino were also parodied by comedians in the ‘Celebrity Family Feud’ sketch. SNL veteran Kenan Thompson, also of Kenan & Kel fame, took on the role of television presenter Steve Harvey who is perhaps now more associated with reading out the wrong winner at the Miss Universe contest last year.
Grande’s talents for impressions didn’t stop at Lawrence. She also imitated the musical styles of Britney Spears, Rihanna, Shakira, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion in a sketch that saw her “single-handedly save Tidal”.
