From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Although it may have been the hottest ticket during New York Fashion Week, it sounds like Vogue chief Anna Wintour didn’t have the best time at Kanye West’s extravagant album party-come-fashion show back in February.

The image of Wintour, who has been at the helm of the Condé Nast title since 1988, at West’s Madison Square Gardens fashion show was shared many a time after she was pictured complete with trademark dark sunglasses sitting by herself amid empty chairs waiting for the show to start.

Appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Wintour jokingly told the host she ended up “alone, abandoned, embarrassed” waiting for the Kardashians to arrive en masse all dressed in fur and the show to start.

Having enjoyed the collection - which she referred to as “Migrant Chic” - the 66-year-old tried to slip out after she saw Jay Z doing the same. However, it didn’t work out too well and she ended up lost in the basement, crying.

“I was lost there for half an hour, asking various people to let me out […] I was really in tears,” however, in an interesting turn of events, she was eventually helped out by her son’s former college baseball coach.

Even if the evening itself might not have been ideal for Wintour, she can rest easy knowing her appearance was appreciated by West who tweeted his thanks the next day, calling her “the boss”.
