From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Amy Schumer has won yet more people over after leaving a mammoth tip for a waiter.
Schumer - who recently proclaimed "I'm probably like 160lbs right now and I can catch a dick any time I want" - left a $500 on a $49 meal at a New York restaurant.
The manager of Peter's Clam Bar on Long Island confirmed that the comedian had an "engaging, animated conversation" with the waiter, who explained that he was working two jobs to pay his college tuition fees.
The comic is known for making strong statements with her comedy. Her sketch The Last F**kable Day pokes fun at ageism in Hollywood; and Girl You Don't Need Makeup is a painfully funny One Direction music video parody.
At the Glamour Awards, Schumer was given Trailblazer of the Year. Accepting her award, she said: "I'm very glamorous. I don't feel out of place here."
Schumer added: "I'm probably like 160lbs right now and I can catch a dick any time I want."
