Peter Blake, the artist who received just pounds 200 for designing the cover of the Beatles album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, is taking Apple records to court.

Three decades later, the album has made millions and Blake feels his contribution has earned him the right to share in its success.

After years of rejected pleas for recompense by the band and their record company, Apple, Blake has finally summoned the lawyers to help.

The action will relate specifically to the cover of the CD. But an Apple spokesman said: "That's just the way business works. His contract said he would get a one off payment and that is what he ... accepted at the time"
