Nigeria frees 47 political prisoners
NIGERIA'S OUTGOING military government freed at least 47 political prisoners on death row for allegedly planning a coup against former dictator General Sani Abacha. The move was an attempt to calm unrest by militants who want a separate state for the Yoruba of south-west Nigeria.
