A 21-year-old man appeared in court yesterday charged with the murder of music student Ryan McEwen King. Raymond Ellis, described as a jobless student, was remanded in custody for seven days by Northampton magistrates. He made no application for bail.
Ms McEwen King, 22, was found dead in the Racecourse park, Northampton, on Saturday afternoon. Mr Ellis, of Northampton, was charged on the day that her degree results - she had gained an upper second - were published by Nene College, where she had just completed a three-year music and drama course. She was hoping to become a professional singer and had applied to be a contestant on the ITV talent show Stars in their Eyes.
A Northampton coroner yesterday formally opened and adjourned an inquest into Ms McEwen King's death.
