Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

You can change your room on reality television, change your garden, even your spouse. Now the makeover craze is about to reach its logical conclusion by giving viewers a chance to change their face.

Ulrika Jonsson is about to host a show offering a top prize of a £3,500 nose job. How Do I Look will take a group of viewers unhappy with their appearance but who cannot afford surgery. They will attend a selection day in London where a panel, including a surgeon and psychologist, will decide which of them is the best candidate.

"We're looking for someone who could genuinely benefit from surgery – someone who feels their nose has really hindered them but who can't afford to pay for an operation," said the producer, Tim Miller. "We want to select someone who's longed to have their nose done. For the right person, this could be the chance of a lifetime."

The operation will be performed by one of the country's leading plastic surgeons. With the psychologist, he will have consultations with each of the candidates to discuss why they want cosmetic surgery. Viewers will see the selection process and the run-up to the operation. The winner will unveil their new look on the show, to be broadcast this summer on ITV1.
