Your support makes all the difference.People can now find out what is trending in their neighborhood with Twitter's newly introduced Local Trends feature.
Twitter announced a full rollout of Local Trends on January 26, tagging the Local Trends service as a way for users to find out more about news events and local topics that are relevant to their locality.
"As Twitter evolves, and more people share what's happening in their own world, we want to provide another way for people to discover topics that may be relevant to them. Last week we began to slowly roll out a new feature called Local Trends to expose what people are talking about on the state and city level, and today we've fully launched so everyone can use it," wrote Twitter on their blog on Tuesday, January 26.
Users can access the feature by heading to their personal Twitter page and changing the Worldwide Trending topics list (located on the right of the page) to match their location preferences.
For the moment users can select local trending topics from Mexico, Brazil, Canada Ireland, United Kingdom, United States, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Houston, London, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Francisco, Seattle, Sao Paulo and Washington, D.C. or can choose to keep the default trending topics list on Worldwide.
Twitter is working on adding new cities and countries to the list.
Another helpful and more visual way to find out what is buzzing in your area is a website called http://trendsmap.com/. Trendsmap visually plots Twitter's trending topics on a map of the globe, letting you zoom into specific areas to see what your neighbors are talking about or zoom out to see what the most talked about topics are on a country-by-country basis.
