TV station broadcasts a new look
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The advertising guru Trevor Beattie is to rebrand Channel 5 in a multimillion pound relaunch.
The overhaul, which will see the station rebranded as "Five", comes five years after the station launched and is part of its attempt to lose the downmarket image it attracted by showing soft porn films.
Mr Beattie, who devised the fcuk campaign for French Connection, will also help promote the autumn schedule, which includes a show hosted by Carol Smillie, presenter of Changing Rooms, in which viewers can win a holiday home.
The station's director of marketing, David Pullan, said: "Channel 5 was a name; Five is a brand. Five as a brand reflects the evolution the channel is undergoing in programming and in becoming more confident and distinctive."
Channel 5's director of programmes, Kevin Lygo, has tried to take the channel upmarket since he took over last year by showing new arts and history programmes.
