Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The most popular news, videos and images as picked by Digg users during the last seven days, recorded on June 7.

1. What your email address says about you: The Oatmeal - a comic that links users' computer literacy to their email address (having your own domain shows there is a good chance you are a programmer or designer whist using an AOL email address shows you are probably still printing out your emails to bring them over to a friend's house). Hosted on The Oatmeal.

2. Space: It's....Vast - images that show how tiny our planet is by comparing the earth and our galaxy to other planets, suns and galaxies seen within the Universe. Hosted on imgur.com.

3. Subway Finally Agrees to Tessellate Cheese - Buzzfeed.com shows off Subway's "generation defining" moment with an article that shows how their employees will now tessellate slices of cheese instead of layering them on top of each other.

4. Some people are gay... - a picture of a man wearing a shirt that says "Some people are gay. Get over it!" Hosted on tumblr.com.

5. The Gates of Hell Just Opened In Guatemala - images of the (almost unbelievable) sinkhole that appeared in Guatemala at the end of May. Hosted on Gizmodo.com.
