MARY Whitehouse may have retired, but Michael Grade, chief executive of Channel 4, remains unforgiving. He has unearthed a letter she wrote to him after the murder of James Bulger, asking him to take personal responsibility for creating conditions which foster violence: it accompanied a vintage Whitehouse campaign document titled Did he Die in Vain? Grade replied: 'I do not believe it helps to use the event to launch one of your campaigns. I am returning your letter, which I consider unworthy.'
