People worried that their Facebook friends are suicidal will now be able to alert the Samaritans. The move comes after the family of a woman who said on Facebook that she intended to kill herself asked why nobody had helped her.

Facebook users will be directed to a form where they can copy in the URL address of the page where they have seen a worrying status update or wall post. Facebook will then pass on the name and email address to the Samaritans.
