HARD on relaunching its Weekend section as a more polished tabloid review with colour, the Guardian, advised by David Hillman, its design guru, is revamping its special-interest second section next month. It will aim to transform this often discarded portion into a more generally appealing read.

Meanwhile, the Times, under Peter Stothard, its new editor, is abandoning its Life & Times section next month and reintegrating features into the main newspaper.
