THE see-saw ratings for the main nightly television news bulletins has been tilting towards ITN's News at Ten for some months. The first quarter of the year saw it level with the BBC's Nine o'Clock News, but it gained slightly in the second quarter, and in July and August hit 54 per cent of the combined audience, with an average of 7.45 million a night. Consolation for the BBC: from 1 October, it is to provide a news package on all British Airways international flights from Heathrow and Gatwick.
