WITH the name of the new controller of BBC 1 due to be announced within days, tension is getting unbearable, especially for Janet Street-Porter, the normally unsinkable head of youth programmes, who is among the frontrunners. She pulled out of a speech at the Royal Television Society tonight because, says a BBC source, she is 'out of sorts'.
