Guilty Pleasure: Emma B On Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is so sexy in his uncoolness. When you know that a man can kill a pig with his own hands, that does it for me. You can imagine him smelling of man-sweat and chicken fat. He's got muscles on him as well - you see him picking up pigs and chopping wood.

I'm so gullible that I was sold within seconds of the whole River Cottage thing. I was drawn into this idyllic lifestyle, where the family is happy and eating off the land; constantly hear the babbling brook in the background. That's my idea of heaven.

He's set out to prove that, away from the additives and the flavours that we're so used to, you can get equally good taste from the land, and with a bit of bartering and coercion from the locals, living like that is possible. Which is nonsense, because he has enormous help from the BBC crew and an enormous budget. He's outdoors and he's scruffy, and you never quite know what's going to happen. There's a bit of the Gordon Ramsay about him.

It's all a bit squeamish, but he's clearly a compassionate man. I always try to catch it, but my husband usually raises his eyebrows and walks out. His recipes are easy and unusual. Some of the stuff that he does makes you think, "Oh yeah - that sounds brilliant". And actually it's just lard on toast, which tastes crap.

Emma B hosts Heart FM drivetime show, weekdays 4-7pm
