Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Twitterers are adding their own commandments to the original 10 this morning as they instruct their followers on what "thou shall not" do. Though it's unclear if anyone is actually following the directions, users are quick to offer them.
"#Thoushallnot forget condoms cost $8 a box as opposed to 25% of your gross income going to child support" and "#thoushallnot say 'we need a change' [if you have] never voted in your whole life," proclaimed some of the Twitter contributors.
As the holiday nears, "Christmas" is on the rise in the trending topics, jumping two places to the number three spot. "Now playing" is also holding strong for the third day in a row at the number two position as users continue to tweet their current music and film choices.
"#Omgfacts" is also on the rise after it reappeared again on the list on December 15. The sporadically appearing trend is being used to share shocking or surprising facts that might cause someone to exclaim, "Oh my God!"
