From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The "nowplaying" hashtag is not budging from its top spot in Twitter's most talked about topics list. The music-related term is firmly cemented in the top position in Twitter's trending topics on the morning of April 12.

Justin Bieber fans and haters are warring it out in the microblogs Monday morning after the teen sensation appeared on US comedy show Saturday Night Live April 10. "#Justinbiebersucks" is trending at number two, while fans are confident that their Canadian pop singer idol is "the best" and have pushed the term "#WeLoveYouJustin" into third place.

"Justin Bieber Sucks" is also trending at number seven. Some social networkers are getting sick of seeing the teenage heartthrob's name in the trending topics list and are making sure their friends and followers are aware of their disdain for the pop star.

"#smackyaself" is a new entry in the charts at number four, followed by the term "#omgfacts".

"'Queue' is the only word in the English language that is still pronounced the same way when the last four letters are removed," "there are more than 40,000 toilet related injuries in the United States every year," and "No word in the English language rhymes with purple, orange, month or silver," say Twitter users, retweeting weird and wonderful facts and accompanying them with the "omgfacts" hashtag.

The top 10 most talked about topics on Twitter on April 12 at 09:30 AM GMT are:
