Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

"Now playing (#nowplaying)" is the most talked about term on Twitter on the morning of January 21.

The subject "#nowplaying" has been a regular fixture in the most talked about topics on Twitter, with microbloggers eager to share the names of songs and movies featuring in their playlist.

Continued support and fundraising efforts for the people affected by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti on January 12 and the 6.1 aftershock that took place on January 20 has kept Haiti in the second position in Twitter's trending topics.

In the spirit of the popular "#omgfacts" trend, people on Twitter are using their 140 characters to tweet about popular quotations using the "TWQ" hashtag.

Most of the quotes were originally posted by @twiquotations, including the now viral, "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. -Yoda" and "Don't wait for the 'perfect moment' because there's no such thing as a perfect moment."
