From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The term "funny but not cool (#FunnybutNotcool)" is the top trending topic on Twitter on November 19 at 9:30 AM GMT.

People are using the social network to share things that make them laugh but are not politically correct or cool.

Posts being tweeted with the term #FunnybutNotcool include, "Using Midgets for Arm Rests," "a slave with a retirement plan" and "fat men having boobies bigger than mine."

The term "New Moon" remains in the number two position on Twitter's list of trending topics for the second consecutive day. New Moon is the second film in the popular Twilight saga and fans are hotly anticipating its November 20 release in the US.

Even before its release The Twilight Saga: New Moon is breaking records. The movie has broken the record for the most advance tickets sold in US movie theaters ever.

On November 18 France went head to head with Ireland in the World Cup qualifying match. The Irish team dominated the majority of the match, scoring the first goal, but it was the French team that will head to South Africa for the World Cup thanks to the sly hand of French team captain Thierry Henry.

Football fans are expressing their outrage on Twitter, calling Henry both a cheat and a bad sportsman for handling the ball right before the winning goal was scored.

"Just seen the Henry incident, shameful. I thought he would have been the bigger man and been a pro and acknowledged his cheating behavior," posted one person on their Twitter account.
