Current Google Insights trends: Stephen Gately, 'Nasa TV', 'Typhoon'

The most searched for topic on Google on October 13 at 6:30 AM GMT is the name of Irish pop singer, Stephen Gately.

Stephen Gately, most famous for his role as one of two lead singers in the pop group Boyzone, passed away on October 10. Searches for his name have risen exponentially since October 10 as the cause of his death has yet to be determined.

The expedition run by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to "blow a hole in the moon" has generated a lot of web traffic over the past week.

On Friday October 9, people across the world tuned into live internet broadcasts of the LCROSS satellite and its booster rocket colliding with the moon - hoping to catch a glimpse of the six-mile high plume of lunar dust that was caused by the impact.

People watching the event were mostly disappointed as the explosion was not as visible as hopped for and photos of the crash showed hardly more than a tiny blur of white dust.

NASA continues to examine the images and information gained from their sensors in the hope of discovering hidden pockets of water ice that may lie obscured from view underneath the moon's surface.
