Searches for the name of Jaimee Grubbs increased after she claimed to be intimately involved with professional golfer Tiger Woods. A number of other women have also alleged that they have had affairs with Woods.
The name of Woods's wife, Elin Nordegren, is also a hotly searched term on Google Insights in the wake of the Woods scandal.
Former American student Amanda Knox was convicted of murder on Friday, December 4. The 22-year-old with the "face of an angel" is due to serve out 26 years in prison for conspiring to murder British student Meredith Kercher.
The search terms with the most significant growth worldwide in the last seven days as measured by Google Insights, recorded on December 7 at 9:30 AM GMT are:
