A man was found dead yesterday in the rubble of a two-storey block of flats destroyed in a gas explosion.

Five people were taken to hospital after the blast, which wrecked 11 flats in Ilkeston, Derbyshire as 200 people were being evacuated early yesterday. Four of them, including two police officers, were discharged after treatment.

The fifth, suffering from leg burns, was said to be comfortable in Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre.
