From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A 21-YEAR-OLD man was charged last night with the murder of Jennifer King, who was strangled after leaving a nightclub in Bristol.

Avon and Somerset police said the man, who has not been named, is due to appear before Bristol magistrates this morning.

Ms King's partially clothed body was found in dense undergrowth near her home at Warmley on the outskirts of Bristol on 3 November, three days after she went missing.

The man charged with her murder was arrested at his home in Warmley. His car and his mother's vehicle have been removed by police forensic science teams. The family and boyfriend of Ms King, 22, a receptionist, have been informed.

News of the arrest came as detectives were preparing for a second weekend of investigations centred on the Chasers nightclub in the Bristol suburb of Kingswood. Ms King left the club at 2.30am on 31 October, apparently to walk alone to her home 20 minutes away.

After her body was discovered, police found two house keys nearby, and believe these may have been dropped by her killer. They then attempted to match the keys to a lock.
