The lottery winner Karl Crompton became Britain's most eligible bachelor yesterday but said "money can't buy me love".

Mr Crompton, who won pounds 10.9m, is too shy to ask the girl of his dreams out. Mr Crompton, 23, has admired her from afar but she only has eyes for her boyfriend. The girl who holds the key to his heart does not know who he is - and Mr Crompton would not reveal her name as he picked up his National Lottery cheque. Later he was reported to have been jailed for nine months in 1993 for smashing a beer glass into man's face.
