Lady Gaga has been confirmed to sing the US national anthem at Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony next week.

As reported by Variety, pop star Jennifer Lopez is also scheduled to perform on the West Front of the US Capitol when the President-elect and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are sworn in on Wednesday 20 January. The ceremony typically begins at approximately 11:30am.

Fans of the musicians have shared their excitement at the news on social media. One user wrote: “The last time @LadyGaga sang the National Anthem was exactly five years ago during Obama’s administration.

“She was introduced as an Academy Award nominee and 6-time Grammy winner. Today, she’s an Academy Award winner and an 11-time Grammy winner.”

In a play on Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, another user added: “@LadyGaga Make National Anthem Great Again.”

“Lady Gaga singing at inauguration is the only news I needed today,” said a third fan.

“So Joe has Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez performing on Wednesday. The orange idiot had Lee Greenwood and Toby Keith. Guess he lost that  one as well!!” quipped another user.

The swearing-in ceremony will also see Andrea Hall, a career firefighter, lead the Pledge of Allegiance, as well as Amanda Gorman, the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate, recite a poem.

Father Leo J O’Donovan – a long-time friend of the Biden family and former Georgetown University president – will deliver the invocation, while Reverend Dr Silvester Beaman – the Pastor of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Biden’s hometown of Wilmington, Delaware – will give the benediction.

In addition to the forthcoming performances, Tom Hanks will be hosting a 90-minute primetime TV special celebrating Biden’s inauguration. Musicians set to perform include Justin Timberlake, Jon Bon Jovi, Demi Lovato and Ant Clemons.
