Labour leads in Fiji election

FIJIANS WERE still awaiting the final result of their multi-race elections yesterday, 48 hours after the polls closed. Initial results put the Indian- led Fiji Labour Party ahead of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka's coalition. A victory by Labour would be a big upset in this South Pacific nation, which has not had an Indian-led government since 1987.
