Jury still out on match-fixing case

The jury in the football match-fixing trial will re-convene on Monday after failing to reach verdicts yesterday.

The six women and five men had spent more than three hours of deliberations before the judge at Winchester Crown Court, Mr Justice McCullough, adjourned the hearing for the weekend.

The jury retired shortly before lunch on the 41st day of the re-trial of soccer stars Bruce Grobbelaar, 39, (pictured), John Fashanu, 34, and Hans Segers, 35. Along with Malaysian businessman, Heng Suan Lim, 32, they deny charges alleging a plot to rig the results of English premier league games.

The prosecution claims they were part of a conspiracy involving a Far Eastern betting syndicate. The re-trial follows an eight-week hearing earlier this year when another jury failed to agree a verdict. Michael Streeter
