For thousands of households across the country (not Scotland), this morning is one of the most stressful of the year as nerve-wracked teens tip up at their schools to find out what all that A-level swotting has come to. Victoria Summerley (p14) sums up succinctly the dread that has hung over so many pupils, parents and families all summer, Olympics or not.
Good luck to all of you. As Victoria suggests, you don't want to hear this, but there are plenty of us who did a tad less well than expected, and we've survived, with varying degrees of success. This is not the time or place to talk standards. All I know is that every teen I know sitting A-levels has worked bloody hard.
So, what if you do get those grades? Laurie Penny (p23) dares ask: "is uni really worth it?" To which my answer is an unequivocal yes, even though I did not love mine much beyond the great friends I made. These days, you may even get bribed to go (p9).
For those that do, here's a new initiative from i that you may like to become involved with. It's not for you freshers or final-year students – you have enough on your plates to deal with as it is, but sophomores, listen up.
We are recruiting student ambassadors for i across selected universities. The role involves a range of tasks, but ultimately you will represent i on campus. It's a great chance to accrue some work experience with a national newspaper whilst at university.
